Hand-dyed face masks - Woad, Weld, Logwood

2020

Hand-dyed face mask with natural dyes, inspired by the Japanese Shibori technique. Hand-sewn, organic cotton.

Ingredients:

  • Chartreuse mask made of organic cotton and dyed with Weld natural dye extract, over-dyed with pale Woad. Weld (Reseda luteola) is a biennial plant with long flower spikes that have been used as a dye for thousands of years. Weld dye comes from the chopped leaves and flower stems of the second-year plant. The Woad plant (Isatis tinctoria) has been famous as a source in Europe of blue pigment for several thousand years. The pigment is extracted from the dark blue-green spinach-like leaves of the woad plant which is a close relative of spinach and other brassicas.

  • Patel lilac mask made of organic cotton and dyed with Logwood natural dye extract.  Logwood (Haematoxylon campecianum) is a tree originally found in the forests of Central America. The dye is extracted from the heartwood and was introduced into Europe by the late 1500s in the form of logs.
